The main influence of my work is the beauty of horses and the many diverse equestrian disciplines. I research my subject well, in particular, paying close attention to the intricate communication between horse and rider. I make them as competition accurate as possible while taking a little artistic license. All of the sculptural pieces start out as a bandsaw operation along the outline of the subject matter. From that wooden blank, no other power tools are used and they are finished without the use of sandpaper. Every nuance of the carving is just -- carving. Details such as reins are in some cases carved separately but are generally carved from the same piece of wood that the subject is carved from. I have been carving with the intent of making these carvings the central facia piece for trophy cabinets. Each piece would be secured behind glass with a cabinet down light illuminating the piece. Other carving in this series are housed in their own shadow boxes behind glass and down lit with cabinet lighting. For more information, click here. |
